//Summary - Level-C2//

"Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)" is a classic comedy featuring Robin Williams as a middle-aged man navigating divorce. Though seemingly a slapstick comedy, it delves into family breakdowns, divorce, and the impact on children, addressing adult developmental disorders. Robin Williams and Sally Field's exceptional performance adds depth, exploring the complexities of marriage. The film blends comedy and human drama, culminating in a poignant ending. Despite its success, a sequel was thwarted by Robin Williams' untimely death, highlighting the actor's struggles with alcoholism and depression.

A)
1)
Profound and funny nonsense comedy

Mrs Doubtfire is a classic comedy starring Robin Williams. I loved the film and watched it often in the cinema, on TV and DVD.

2)
The good thing about this film is that the main character, a middle-aged man separated from his children by divorce proceedings, cross-dresses with the help of his friends (and a big old British grandmother) and protects his family like a ghost. You might think it's a slapstick nonsense comedy.

Still, it's actually about the breakdown of families due to divorce, which is a problem not only in the United States but around the world, and the feelings of children who conflict with their parents. It also seems to be talking about "adult developmental disorder", one of the causes of divorce, which a generation ago would have been dismissed as "inconsistency in personality or values".

3)
Robin Williams has been married and divorced several times and has several children with his ex-wife, making his case even more convincing. As Mrs Doubt says in her film, why do "couples who are related, love each other and even have children" end up hating each other?

It's a profound work that will make you think about many things after you've laughed out loud. For men and women who were initially strangers to continue living together as a family, it is impossible to recognise and remove obstacles other than love, such as personal complexes and small preferences in lifestyle. I thought it was essential to put them aside for a while.

B)
4)
The appearance of Oscar-winning actress Sally Field

In addition to the unique make-up that won the Academy Award for Make-up, one of the major highlights of this film is the fantastic "shape" performed by Sally Field, who plays Miranda Hillard's wife.

Even though it is a live-action film, the changes in facial expressions are so unique that you feel like you are watching an animation. It's so funny that it's hard to tell the difference from the cartoon scenes interspersed here and there.

5)
Her 100-faced face, with the blue streaks on her neck showing anger and pity for her husband's eccentric behaviour, further accelerates the film's speed. The audience will not be bored after the middle section, where the unbelievable slapstick continues.

The casting was perfect for a career woman who wants to shine as a woman while supporting her unemployed husband and three children. The scenes where she reveals her lonely heart to Mrs Doubt and asks her for advice on coordinating her outfits show us her secret to a happy marriage: "Life is fun when husband and wife are best friends."

6)
Judging from how they talked again after their divorce, Daniel seemed to be the reason for Miranda's break-up with Stewart Dunmire, played by Pierce Brosnan

I don't remember how Miranda explained why her marriage to Daniel, who had given up a perfect man to marry her, ended her Life, but I got the impression that she was very supportive of divorced people.

C)
7)
What is marriage?

When husbands and wives get married for a long time, they lose their sexual attraction to each other, and in many ways, it ceases to be a relationship between a man and a woman.

However, perhaps because they still hold on to the feelings they had when they first met, they never let go of feelings of jealousy between men and women, and this is considered normal in society. Such bitter feelings give rise to negative expressions that hurt each other.

8)
This work also depicts two people who can't help but care about each other's friendship even after their divorce. The scene in which Mrs Doubt, who usually speaks elegant British English, returns to her friend Danielle and unleashes her abuse is the real heart of the film.

The scene in which he repeatedly makes harsh comments out of jealousy of a super-handsome elite man who rivals James Bond is deeply entertaining, as the feelings of a 60-year-old woman and the man whose ex-wife is about to be stolen from him overlap strangely. It's funny, like a mum in a gay bar, all the time.

9)
Around this time, she realises that Mrs Doubt has become irreplaceable from Miranda's perspective and that of her children.

Her suspicion that she won't be able to live like this forever makes me think of her sad farewell to Mrs Doubt, which is heartbreaking. What I like about this work is the smooth connection between nonsense comedy and heartbreaking human drama.

D)
10)
What is childcare?

Daniel, unable to scold his children when he was their father, works as a strict housekeeper to bring out their strengths, but she realises that she has failed to rebuke them because she lacks self-confidence.

Did he create the character of Mrs. Doubt by reflecting on her past self? The answer may be that she chose this method more for her precious "daddy time" than when she was a family.

11)
It seems that non-scolding parenting has become mainstream worldwide, but it is said that the results have not yet been seen, as it has only been a short time since experts started suggesting it.

Some people state that it is a fantasy of immature parents to think that the outcome of raising a child will change depending on whether you discipline them by scolding them or by explaining them logically so that they understand.

It would also be a mistake to think it is necessary to decide on a parenting policy as soon as you have a child. Children may grow up feeling something more internal about their parents.

E)
12)
climax scene

What makes me laugh no matter how often I watch this film is when the main character, Daniel, is busy finishing his work at an important dinner with company president Jonathan Lundy.

Mrs Doubtfire returns to the company president's table and drinks a scotch. It's a scene. The story unfolds so quickly that even the viewer doesn't notice it for a while, but the process by which Daniel gradually completes Yopparai is so perfect that it draws you in completely.

13)
The scene where he sneaks into her kitchen and messes with the food is funny, so this scene has a significant impact. Seeing the elegant British lady return to her usual self and swear is cool.

The moment when all the balance they had worked so hard to maintain suddenly collapses, the Hillard family's housekeeper disappears and "Mrs Doubtfire", host of a hugely popular TV show, is born. Mrs Doubtfire's expression was strangely sexy.

14)
Charming characters that stay in your heart

The charming housekeeper, with his light-hearted demeanour and heartwarming personality, has disappeared but has returned to television as everyone's favourite. He is a lovely host who makes you want to watch such a programme.

The scene where the core message of this work is discussed was also good. I felt refreshed after watching this film, laughing at how unnatural marriage is for people who need stability (family) and stimulation (love). Maybe it's something you can learn from.

15)
Of course, this is not a denial of marriage and divorce but an affirmation of human Life. That's probably why the film had to end this way, not with a pleased ending.

The ending, which may seem inappropriate for a comedy with a nonsensical plot, was impressive and conveyed a strong message. How did the family change after the final scene?

16)
I remember that the release of the second film was announced a few years ago after it became a worldwide hit in 1993, but it became impossible to see it forever due to the death of Robin Williams.

Robin Williams appeared in popular films almost every year, but it seems that he suffered from alcoholism and depression from an early age.

It was later announced that this was only one of the reasons for his suicide. Still, it is unfortunate that he died too soon. I wanted to see more heart-warming human dramas performed by top comedians.
