Disney version of Beauty and the Beast synopsis - from Wikipedia (1991)
//Summary - Level-C2//
In Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," a selfish prince is cursed to become a beast. Belle, a kind girl, befriends him. Despite adversity, they fall in love. Gaston, jealous and vengeful, leads an attack. The Beast saves Belle but is fatally wounded. Belle confesses her love, breaking the curse. The prince transforms back, and they live happily ever after with the castle's servants.
A)
Once upon a time, a young, beautiful, but extraordinarily selfish and arrogant prince lived in a castle deep in the woods.
One night, an ugly older woman visited the castle and asked the prince to spend the night in the castle in exchange for a rose.
B)
The prince refuses because of the older woman's ugliness.
The old woman advised her, "It is not good to judge people by their looks." But the prince did not listen to her and tried to drive the older woman away again.
C)
And at that moment, the older woman turned into her beautiful witch.
The witch bewitched the prince, who was not kind and judged people by their looks, the servants who brought him up like this, and the whole castle.
The prince then takes the form of a terrifying beast, and the servants take the form of household objects.
D)
The witch leaves behind a magic mirror that can reflect anything, and the single rose she showed her at the beginning disappears.
If the princes do not find "true love," the idea of loving and being loved by others, by the time all the rose petals fall, the spell placed on them will never be broken.
E)
Ten years have passed.
Belle, the daughter of the inventor Maurice, who lives in a particular city, is the most beautiful woman in town. And she was a devoted daughter to her father, who loved to read and daydream.
Belle did not fit in with the townspeople, who considered her dreamy nature eccentric.
The hunter Gaston, the most handsome and popular man in town but a violent, vulgar and arrogant man, persistently urges his friend Belle to marry him.
F)
The day Maurice left for an invention convention, his beloved horse Philip returned without his father.
When Belle saw this, she thought something must have happened to her father.
She and their beloved horse, Philip, come to the castle deep in the forest where she and Maurice were separated.
G)
Maurice was lost in the forest, attacked by wolves and separated from his beloved horse, Philip.
When he arrives at the castle, he asks for shelter for the night.
Lumiere the Candle and Madame Pott the teapot couldn't help but entertain Maurice.
H)
The Beast, the castle owner, was furious and imprisoned Maurice as an intruder.
Belle prayed for her father's release.
She offered the Beast that she would stay in the castle in exchange for her father.
I)
The Beast accepted the terms.
But when Maurice refused, it forced him into a magic carriage and drove him back to the city.
J)
Belle is left in the castle, but the servants, including Mrs Potts, Lumiere the candle and Cogsworth the clock, are happy to take her in and entertain her.
Belle gradually comes to her senses and tries to adapt to her life in the castle.
However, she can no longer stand the brutal behaviour of the disrespectful and selfish Beast and runs out of the castle.
K)
Then, Belle is attacked by a wild wolf in a snowstorm but is saved by the Beast, who rushes to her rescue.
After that incident, Belle realises the kindness in the heart of the ugly and unjust Beast.
Her kindness kindness also touches the Beast to communicate.
As he spends his days with her, the Beast gradually regains his human heart and begins to have feelings for Belle.
And Belle, too, becomes attracted to the Beast.
L)
It was the night of the ball, just the two of them.
Even with her joy, Belle can't hide her depressed expression when she thinks of her father, so the Beast gives her a magic mirror that reflects Maurice's image.
What was shown was the image of Maurice, who had wandered through the forest looking for Belle while he was ill and collapsed.
M)
He informs Gaston and his friends, who are making a fuss at the bar, of the Beast's existence and asks them for help.
However, they could not deal with him, and he would rescue Bell himself.
Seeing Belle's dismay, the Beast realises her love for Belle within him, considers her feelings, and gives Belle her magic mirror, and he releases her.
He knew that if he let her go without confirming her love for him, he would never be able to break his curse again.
N)
Belle rescued her father and returned to town.
Gaston plots to have Maurice, who claims that there is a beast in the castle, committed to a mental hospital as a lunatic to get him to agree to his marriage.
When she finds out, she vehemently rejects Gaston.
O)
To prove what Maurice says is true, she uses a magic mirror to show the townspeople what the Beast looks like.
But Gaston, driven by jealousy, tells the townspeople that the Beast is terrifying.
To kill the Beast, he incites the people to attack the castle at night.
To prevent them from informing the Beast, Gaston imprisons Belle and Maurice in the cellar of his house.
P)
The two are at a loss but can escape thanks to the ingenuity of Mrs Pott's son, Chip the Teacup, who sneaks out of the castle in Belle's pocket.
They hurry back to the castle to inform the Beast of the attack.
Q)
Meanwhile, the Beast is overwhelmed with grief over the loss of Belle and has become desperate.
Even after receiving reports of intruders, he has done nothing.
Lumiere the Candle and his servants devise a plan to protect their master and the castle.
They disguise themselves as natural household objects, take the intruders by surprise, launch a simultaneous counterattack and successfully repel them.
R)
Amid the commotion, however, Gaston discovers the location of the Beast.
He then surprises the Beast by shooting an arrow from behind, cornering it on the balcony and inflicting severe pain.
However, the Beast remains powerless and does not move.
However, just as Gaston is about to deliver the final blow, the Beast hears the screams of Belle, who has rushed in, and the Beast regains its life and begins to counterattack.
Finally, the Beast corners Gaston and, in a rage, tries to throw him off the balcony.
However, when he sees Gaston begging for his life, he is dissuaded and tells Gaston to leave.
S)
He climbs along the roof to the balcony and has his long-awaited reunion with Belle.
Immediately, Gaston plunges his dagger into the Beast's side from behind.
They both lose their balance.
But the Beast grabs Belle's hand and saves her, and Gaston dies.
T)
However, the Beast's wounds were severe and looked like he would not survive.
The Beast spoke words of love and farewell at intervals.
Clinging to the Beast's corpse, Belle tearfully confessed her love for the Beast.
U)
While everyone was sad, beautiful shooting stars suddenly fell from the sky, and the white sky was enveloped in light.
Then, the Beast returned to its original form as a shining and beautiful prince.
Furthermore, the servants also returned to their appearance when they were human princes.
V)
With Belle's confession of love, the Beast finally overcomes the challenge of learning to love and be loved.
And he is freed from the curse placed on him and the castle.
With the blessing of the castle servants and her father, Maurice, the two are united and live happily ever after.
