What's so great about Taylor Swift? - Strategic changes in musicality
//Summary - Level-C2//
Taylor Swift's exceptional stature results from strategic musical evolution, securing three Grammy awards for "Best Album" by skilfully crossing genres. Swift's media-savvy approach, incorporating personal narratives and early adoption of social media, cultivates a devoted fan base. Grammy recognition hinges on her genre versatility, challenging potential historic wins. Cultural considerations may influence awards, highlighting her societal impact as a possible avenue for SDGS and LGBTQ+ advocacy recognition.
A)
Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter. Who is extremely popular and has a proven track record. As an overseas celebrity, she has been featured in entertainment news, even in Japan so that you may have heard of her name. You may have listened to some or even one of her songs.

B)
Now I would like to write about the main topic, "What's so great about it?", but I would want to note about the "Grammy Awards", which are said to be the most prestigious music awards in America as an objective indicator, and Taylor Swift's achievements in response to them.
The Grammy Awards have many awards for different genres of music, and it is an even more incredible honour to be nominated for one of the four major categories that are chosen across all genres of music, let alone to win one.
Among these four primary categories, the "Top of Top" is the "Best Album Award" given to the "best album work and creator of the past year".
In the long history of the Grammys (currently 65 years), the two people who have won this award the most are Stevie Wonder, a man, three times, and Taylor Swift, a woman, three times.
Therefore, according to the Grammys, Taylor Swift is considered a great artist on par with Stevie Wonder!
C)
So, how did Taylor Swift achieve such a feat?
To conclude first,
"She strategically changed the musicality (musical genres) and managed to produce the best albums in each musical genre".
Next,
She uses media reports about his relationships (lovers, friends) and writes songs about his "real experiences" to become the centre of worldwide attention and conversation.
She was among the first to use the Internet, especially social networking sites, to create the "Taylor Swift World" and build a strong bond with her fans. I think this is the main reason she is so amazing.
D)
First of all, regarding her musicality, Taylor Swift was originally an American singer-songwriter of "Country" (a music genre similar to "Enka" in Japan).
I should've said no
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9bxXO9fj98
She rose to fame with this country music and won her first Grammy Album Award for her country album.
Winning this award just once is an incredible feat, but if you look back at the Grammy Album Award winners, many great artists have beaten it more than once—every few artists.
E)
Why?
Many artists fundamentally believe that their "musical style", at least in critical parts, has something to do with the fact that they rarely change drastically throughout their careers.
From the perspective of the Grammys, there is a section where they believe that "the masterpiece of an artist's musicality is the work that has won the album award," so even if the general listener says, "this artist's album this year is the best masterpiece", the Grammys disagree.
F)
So what is Taylor Swift doing strategically? "Continue to produce albums by constantly changing her musical style,
Country → Rock → Dance Pop → Folk → Pop, and so on."
She believes she has been able to do this because she actively collaborates with professionals in other musical genres to create her songs. However, the creation itself is a method used by many artists.
However, with her changing musicality, she has created the best albums in each musical genre, as if to say, "I am a professional who has been doing this kind of music from the beginning." This is nothing but her divine talent that no other artist can imitate.
G)
Because it is an album that changes the musicality (genre), Grammy says: "Although the artist is the same, the musical genre is different from the work that won the previous award", and it is the best album, so we have no choice but to give the prize.
I think one of the reasons we changed our musical style was to increase the live venue's capacity (to make more money).
H)
As for the second approach, which uses the media, gossip is reported in Japan by prying into people's private lives, such as "so and so celebrity is dating" or "that celebrity behaved like this". In America, however, even more extreme scrutiny (so-called paparazzi) seems to occur.
Taylor Swift confirmed the reported gossip about her (lovers, friendships, etc.) by saying: "This song (lyrics) is about falling in love or breaking up with xx. She is known for singing songs (vocals) with a windy feel.
As a result, it reaches not only her fans but also people who like gossip, and it seems that these people have become "obsessed with Taylor Swift (fans)" before they know it.
But this is a method used by many celebrity artists in America. So I think the most important thing is the quality of the music.
I)
The third point, regarding Internet use, especially SNS, is more or less the same as Billie Eilish's previous discussion, so leave it out.
However, it is interesting to note that even now that music subscriptions have become the most common form of music consumption, Taylor Swift's CD albums are the best-selling in the world. Of course, records that have become popular in recent years also sell well.
For her latest albums, she deals with the albums by saying that they have different cover art but the same content, just like Japanese idols.
This is similar to the fact that CDs are still selling well in Japan (compared to other countries). I think this means that Taylor Swift is not only a genius singer-songwriter but also has the popularity of an idol.
Also, based on her past statements and actions, she is sceptical about music subscriptions and believes that "to get something of value, you have to pay a corresponding amount".
Based on the consensus that being a model is as good as being "free" in terms of artist income, the inhabitants of Taylor Swift's world agree with this consensus and are willing to "pay" for her work. I think an aspect of this says, "I'm in".
J)
By the way, I previously wrote that Billie Eilish resonates with Generation Z with her horror-like, "dark" songs, but Taylor Swift, on the other hand, is very "healthy," "upbeat," and also "like the ones she grew up with."
Taylor Swift has very wealthy parents. However, in Billie Eilish's case, she didn't come from a rich family and was instead raised to be free. Therefore, Billie Eilish is a little vulgar.
The fact that they are in a contrasting relationship, like the moon and the sun, can hint at what kind of situation the world is in today.
K)
Finally, I think it is inevitable that Taylor Swift will continue to be a successful artist. Still, from the perspective of the Grammys, she will be able to win the album award for the fourth time, which no one has ever done before. Is that possible? I think it won't be easy.
The reason is that I think it would be tough for music to change any more, and if she wins the Grammy for the fourth time, she will become the best artist of all time in terms of Grammys; in other words, Stevie Wonder because it means that you will be recognised as a fantastic artist.
L)
If Taylor Swift, a white person, becomes number one in history, it would be like saying she is better than Stevie Wonder, a black person, so the black community will not remain silent. (Black people often create the roots of all American music).
However, in the context of SDGS and LGBTQ+, I think it might be possible for her to receive an award in a scenario where she is recognised as an icon for actively responding to such social issues.

Taylor Swift/Beyoncé and others selected for Forbes' 2023 "100 Most Powerful Women in the World."
https://www.billboard-japan.com/d_news/detail/132495/2
//Summary - Level-C2//
Taylor Swift ranks fifth on Forbes' "100 Most Powerful Women" list for 2023, ahead of Beyoncé and Rihanna. Swift, who tops the list as a musician, achieves this position due to her billionaire status, re-recorded music success and The Eras Tour. With a net worth of $1.1 billion, she is the first musician to appear on the list solely for singing and performing. Beyoncé climbs to 36th, honoured for her Grammy achievements, while Rihanna comes in at 74th with a higher net worth of $1.4 billion. Forbes uses metrics such as money, media, influence and impact to determine its rankings.
A)
Taylor Swift has been named the fifth most powerful woman in the world, beating Beyoncé and Rihanna in Forbes' annual list of the world's 100 most powerful women.
B)
Swift, who reached her highest ranking in 2023, also topped the list as a musician. She was ranked first by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, second by European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, third by US Vice President Kamala Harris and fourth by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia, next to Meloni.
C)
The magazine cited Swift's recent billionaire status and ticket sales for Taylor's re-recorded version and The Eras Tour as reasons for her top ranking.
Her net worth is estimated at $1.1 billion [approximately 161 billion yen], including $500 million in royalties and tours, $500 million in music catalogue, and roughly $125 million in real estate.
The magazine notes that Swift, 33, is the "first musician to make the list based solely on her singing and performance."
D)
Beyoncé is ranked 36th this year, up 44 places from 80th last year. According to Forbes, the 42-year-old achieved a historic feat by becoming the most awarded artist in history at the Grammy Awards in February this year, as well as for her work on the Renaissance Tour and her collaboration with Balmain. He received the honour in recognition of his success.
E)
Meanwhile, 35-year-old Rihanna comes in at No. 74, but her staggering $1.4 billion net worth is higher than Swift and Beyoncé's ($540 million). Forbes singled out the lucrative Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty businesses and their Super Bowl halftime show performance earlier this year.
F)
In June this year, all three were named in Forbes' list of America's richest self-made women, with Rihanna at 20th, Swift at 34th and Beyonce at 48th.
G)
"As in previous years, the 2023 rankings were determined by four key metrics: money, media, influence, and spheres of influence," the magazine explains, adding that "everyone's media mentions and social reach. "The results were 100 women shaping the policies, products, and political battles that define our world."
