One Hundred Years of Solitude is a moving and emotional story.

*Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (March 6, 1928 - April 17, 2014) was a Colombian journalist and novelist. He pioneered magical realism and significantly impacted the literary world, mainly with his works set in the fictional city of Macondo. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.

Storyline
Married against their parent's wishes, cousins José Arcadio Buendía and Úrsula Iguarán leave their village behind and embark on a long journey in search of a new home. Accompanied by friends and adventurers, their journey culminates with the founding of a utopian town on the banks of a river of prehistoric stones that they baptize Macondo. Several generations of the Buendía lineage will mark the future of this mythical town, tormented by madness, impossible loves, a bloody and absurd war, and the fear of a terrible curse that condemns them, without hope, to one hundred years of solitude.

1)
Synopsis:

One Hundred Years of Solitude is a masterpiece by Garcia Marquez, published in 1967. The story unfolds through the generations of the Buendía family in the fictional town of Macondo in South America.

2)
The story begins with the founder, José Alcedes Buendía, and follows the history of seven generations of the family. The Buendía family made their fortune in the textile industry and were respected by the public, but their destiny is one of decline and tragedy.

3)
In this story, which contains elements of magic, the characters experience strange events and mysterious experiences. The flow of time is uncertain, and there are also people with precognitive abilities and beings of immortality.

4)
A moving and emotional story:

In addition to its epic scope and magical elements, this novel is attractive for its deep human drama. The Buendía family's search for happiness, love, and tragic fate will touch you to the core.

5)
The story explores various themes, including family ties, the complexity of human relationships, love and loss, and human desire and suffering. The characters' joys, sorrows and tragedies are filled with relatable elements, and readers will experience emotional highs with them.

6)
García Márquez's unique use of language and rich descriptive power are also appealing. His poetic writing is beautiful and draws the reader into the story's world.

This story cannot be fully understood in a single reading. Reading it many times will reveal new insights and meanings. One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book that will stay with you forever.

7)
Parts that moved me:

This novel is a story of human joy, suffering, love, and loss, but one part particularly moved me.

One is the suffering of the protagonist, José Alcedes Buendía. He was born able to see the future and is tormented by knowing what will happen.

He knows the fate of those he loves but cannot change it, and he is faced with tragedy. This contrast between joy and suffering moves the reader deeply.

8)
The other is family ties and loss. In the story, the members of the Buendía family overcome many hardships and tragedies, but they also value their family ties.

While their love and sacrifice are shown, the family is also lost one by one through decay and death. This sense of loss and the strength of the bond resonates in the reader's heart.

9)
Summary:

One Hundred Years of Solitude is a work that combines epic proportions and magical elements as a story through the generations of the Buendía family. It depicts a profound human drama, a of elements that move the reader's heart.

García Márquez's poetic writing is also one of its attractions. You won't understand everything in one reading, but you will discover something new if you read it repeatedly. One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book that stays with you.

Movie Diary: Terayama Shuji's "Farewell to the Ark" - a film like a stateless puppet show

https://note.com/hakoniwashi/n/n1f3c8ad2a051

This movie was advertised as a film adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude." It was Terayama Shuji's last film.

The movie was completed in 1982, Terayama died in 1983 and released in 1984. It was not released for two years, during which Terayama passed away.

There are various theories as to why it could not be released, such as the finished movie was too different from the original story, which led to a complaint from Marquez's side, or that Marquez won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982, which caused the price of the original story to skyrocket. They could not respond, but I cannot find the details.

The original novel is a 100-year story about the Buentias family set in a fictional village in Colombia called Macondo. It has a unique narrative style that excludes modern depictions of the inner world. It was published in 1967 and translated and published in Japan by Shinchosha in 1972. In the mid-1970s, Kobo Abe, Shuji Terayama, Kenzaburo Oe, and others actively wrote and said that One Hundred Years of Solitude was an excellent work.
