//Summary - Level-B2//

Hirata Atsutane compiled the Amatsu-norito, a sacred Japanese prayer, from ancient oral traditions to help people reconnect with their spiritual roots. Each word is believed to carry divine power, purifying the mind and body when recited with sincerity. Passed down since the Age of the Gods, this prayer restores peace, clarity, and connection to the divine. Atsutane urges everyone to chant it daily, especially in quiet moments, to cleanse the heart and uplift society. True power comes not from the words alone, but from chanting them with gratitude, humility, and respect for the gods.

This country has been called 'a land of powerful words'.
To help the Japanese people reconnect with their ancient heritage,

Hirata Atsutane collected words of purification passed down through the generations in different regions and compiled them into the Amatsu-norito.

This is not just any old collection of words.
Each syllable is imbued with the prayers of the gods and ancestors.
Every time you recite it, your doubts and anxieties are washed away.

Anyone can recite Amatsu-norito.
Try reciting it clearly during the quiet morning or evening hours.
I hope this video will help illuminate the 'light of words of power' in your life.

You all. How blessed do you truly feel to have been born in Japan?
Our country has the most extended history in the world — but that's not all.

It is imbued with the will of the gods and the power of words, accumulated over thousands of years.

This spiritual essence lies at the heart of the Japanese soul and is the fundamental path I have explored throughout my life.

The Amatsu-norito, a type of prayer, has been at the centre of purification rituals since the Age of the Gods and has cleansed the minds and bodies of many people throughout history.

I did not create this norito alone.

Since ancient times, it has been carefully passed down, even in fragments, through the oral traditions of shrines, purification gates, shrine maidens and priests in various regions.

I have reorganised the words of purification and cleansing into a coherent whole.

2)
01:06
As times change, people become fascinated by what they can see, and the trend of belittling the power of words in religious ceremonies grows stronger. I have therefore resolved that the essence of the word 'spirit' must not be lost.

I thoroughly researched old words, oral traditions, and descriptions from ancient books. I also examined the prayers of various shrine families left here and there. I then edited and reorganised all of these sources into the Amatsu-norito, taking care not to offend the gods' will.

The Amatsu-norito was not created by me alone.
It is the culmination of the work of the gods, the prayers of our ancestors and the sincere traditions of many generations of priests.

Please do not forget the meaning and power of this norito.

The Amatsu-norito is a daily purification ritual and a sacred bridge connecting gods and people.
Allowing the inevitable playfulness in people's lives to cloud the mind and weaken the body creates chaos.

3)
02:13
However, when you recite the Amatsu-norito, your mind and body are cleansed without you realising it and your inner purity is restored.

The fundamental function is the power of words.
This is how the Amatsu-norito begins:

'Takaamahara ni kamutsumarumasu'.

Each syllable of these words carries the resonance of the gods' lives.
I have experienced the power of the Amatsu-norito many times.

I wrote these words in the hope that people would once again be able to connect with the gods and purify their souls.

Now, I will share the full text of the Amatsu-norito with you.
Reading it out loud will surely make you feel the resonance spreading within and outside yourself.

When the sacred Izanagi-no-Mikoto, the Emperor's ancestor, received the command of the gods and goddesses residing in Takamagahara, he was performing a purification ritual at Awakihara in Tachibana no Koto in Hyuga, Tsukushi. The great gods of purification appeared to him, asking him to purify himself of all evil deeds and sins. The gods of heaven, earth, and all the other gods joined him, and with their spotted celestial horses perking up their ears, they humbly begged him to please hear them.

These words are the prayer of the Japanese soul, passed down since the creation of heaven and earth.

Each sound is filled with the power to purify the universe.
The important thing is to follow the sounds and recite with a clear mind, respect, and sincerity.

5)
04:30
No matter how much time passes, the fundamental power of these words will never fade.

The spiritual benefits of the Amatsu-norito are truly profound.

They cleanse the body and mind of everyday impurities and restore the connection with the gods.

In the past, people always recited these words when faced with illness, disaster or hardship.

I have hummed the Amatsu-norito myself in times of difficulty and confusion, and each time I have done so, I have gained a sense of peace and courage.

Many of the confusions and conflicts in this world stem from the cloudiness of people's hearts.

Amatsu-norito can remove that cloudiness and guide us back to our original, pure hearts.

However, drawing out the true power of Amatsu-norito requires a sincere heart above all else.

6)
05:36
Chant the words with gratitude and humility, respecting the gods from the bottom of your heart, and they will come to life.

Conversely, no matter how beautiful the words are, they will have no power if you merely go through the motions of chanting.

The actual connection between gods and people is found in invisible sincerity.

I did not systematise and spread the Amatsu-norito simply because I was fascinated by the power of these words.

I did it because I strongly wished Japanese people would awaken to their soul's path again and regain the pure prayer that flows deep within them.

Amatsu-norito is essential for those who pursue only convenience, rationality and the outside world, forgetting their inner world.

Each time you chant the Amatsu-norito, you will unknowingly purify yourself and your family, and eventually the entire society and the land itself will be freed from impurity.

7)
06:43
This invisible chain is the mysterious power of words.

Please try quietly chanting the Amatsu-norito as a morning and evening purification ritual.

Even if you only have a few moments during the day, try to calm your mind, focus on each word and chant as if you are in the presence of the gods.

You may not feel anything at first, but as you repeat the ritual, you will feel the clouds in your mind clear and a new light shine into your body.

The Amatsu-norito is open to everyone, not just those with exceptional qualifications.
It is open to anyone born in this country who has a prayer in their heart.

If you are suffering in secret or feeling anxious about the state of the world, please chant the Amatsu-norito without fear.

8)
07:49
Your voice will surely reach the gods and illuminate your soul.

I spent much time reorganising and systematising the Amatsu-norito, speaking with elders and priests from all over the country, and examining the words many times.

I felt responsible for passing on the power of these words to future generations. At times, I was confused and troubled.

However, if spreading the Amatsu-norito can help connect Japan's soul to the future, there would be no greater joy.

I sincerely hope these words will support you and eventually shine a light on the country.

The time to recite these words is now.

Speak the Amatsu-norito, let them resonate in your heart and use them for daily purification.

The protection of the gods will surely purify and illuminate your path.

May these words gently illuminate your mind in every corner of the world.

The gods reside in Takamagahara.

When the Imperial Ancestor Izanagi performed a purification ritual at Awakihara in Hyuga, Tsukushi, at the divine command of the God of Heaven, Izanagi, the gods of Ikuzaharaedo, and others were purified of all misfortunes, sins, and impurities.

All eight million gods of heaven and earth stood up with their ears raised high to listen and eat.

They were filled with awe and reverence.
